Clothing Manufacturing

Many young entrepreneurs want to express their creativity through a clothing line.  While there are many different types of clothing lines and styles, they all have one thing in common-the need for the right clothing or textile manufacturer.

Finding the right clothing manufacturer is vital in your startup process and continued success.  You must find a manufacturer that suits your unique needs and produces a product that you feel comfortable displaying your brand.

DEFINE YOUR MARKET

It is important to determine if there is a market for your product.  If so, who are you targeting?  In order to reach this target audience, you must clearly know how you will reach them with the product and if they have a need for it.  The more market research you do, the better prepared you will be in the industry, greatly enhancing your chance for success.  Be sure to speak with clothing buyers for large retail stores to assess the need and market more clearly.

THE PRODUCT

When designing your product, you must ask yourself a few questions.  What is the scope of your intended product line?  Are you most interested in just one product or an entire clothing line?  Are you interested in a maternity line as well?  These are all questions that you must ask have answered before you begin your prototype.  Having a clear and well formed business plan will cut out the guess work later and simplify your business model.  It will also help you be more organized and focused in your intended field of interest.

MANUFACTURING

This is a key step in your startup process.  Finding the clothing manufacturer that makes the product that you want, for the right cost is your next step.  Clothing and textile manufacturers can be hard to find.  Many professionals suggest speaking to other clothing distributors and business colleagues for referrals.  You also must decide if you are going to stay with a US based manufacturer or go overseas.  Many overseas clothing manufacturers have very large minimum required orders, which can alienate newer startup businesses with less capital in the beginning.  US based companies are usually easier to work with and the US protects and enforces patent laws.
